Moralia (Selections)
Forthcoming The translation of this work is in preparation and will be published in the library.
Introduction
Moralia is the name given to more than seventy essays and dialogues by Plutarch on an astonishing range of subjects: how to listen to lectures, how to tell a friend from a flatterer, how to control anger, how to profit from one's enemies, on tranquillity of mind, a letter of consolation to his wife on the death of their daughter, why the Delphic oracle no longer speaks in verse, and essays on diet, the reason of animals and marriage. They are the direct forerunners of Montaigne's Essays. This volume translates the most representative of them, and those closest to everyday life.
