Three Hundred Tang Poems
Forthcoming The translation of this work is in preparation and will be published in the library.
Introduction
The Tang dynasty was the golden age of Chinese poetry, and Three Hundred Tang Poems is the most famous and most widely read anthology of it: some three hundred and ten poems by seventy-seven poets, arranged by form, old-style verse, regulated verse, quatrains and ballads. Here are Li Bai's moonlight before his bed, like frost on the ground; Du Fu's 'The nation is broken, but hills and rivers remain'; Wang Wei's empty mountain after fresh rain; Meng Haoran's spring sleep, unaware of dawn, with birdsong everywhere; Bai Juyi's 'Song of Everlasting Sorrow' and 'Song of the Pipa'; and Li Shangyin's silkworm that spins until it dies. It is part of every Chinese childhood, and the best introduction to Chinese poetry.
